We know, we know...everybody hates rules but as with any forum or any community in general there must be guidelines set forth or mayhem and chaos will be all that is accomplished. So, not only are we asking, we are expecting each member to take the time to read and then adhere to the rules of this forum.
1. BE POLITE. While we do know and understand that everyone is not going to agree or even get along all the time, we do expect you to handle those disagreements in a mature fashion. (And yes, this does include any and all 13 year old members as well) It is okay to say "I do not agree with your opinion" and then proceed to explain why but it is NEVER okay to call someone an idiot for believing the way they do, even if you secretly think them to be one. So, in other words, no name calling, no harassing, no threatening, etc. This includes through private message as well and any member found to have done this will be warned only once and will be banned for any instance there after.
2. NO EXPLICIT LANGUAGE AND/OR PICTURES. Whether your communication with any member of this forum be through public threads or private messaging, there will be no explicit language and/or pictures allowed. And any member found in violation of this rule will be banned. No second chances.
3. PROBOARDS TERMS OF SERVICE MUST BE FOLLOWED. Seeing as this is a forum that means something to it's creators, we will not take kindly to those that put it at risk for deletion. We understand that not all members will be aware of what Proboards TOS include, so if you are found in violation of any of these, you will be notified and asked to cease and/or delete offensive material and directed to read the term you have violated. If you follow instructions, all is well. If you do not, you will then be banned.
4. STAY ON TOPIC. No matter which section you are posting in, please stay on topic. If a thread naturally moves toward another subject, we are not so uptight that we will insist you start another thread but if posters are discussing the weather in a thread, please do not ask a question or make a statement about any other topic. If you insist on doing so repeatedly (more than once) you will be disciplined.
5. NO SPAMMING. Period. And just in case there is someone that does not know what spam is, here is a definition: Spam is the abuse of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems and in this case private message) to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately.
6. NO TROLLING. For those not sure on what this means, let me explain; repeatedly and deliberately breaching the netiquette of an established online community, posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages to bait or excite users into responding or to test the forum rules and policies, and with that the patience of the forum staff. There is absolutely no tolerance for this. YOU WILL BE BANNED.
7. NO DOUBLE POSTING OR BUMPING. This just shows common courtesy. The Admins and members of this site are people with jobs, families and lives and therefore may not always be around to answer or reply to your posts immediately. We are not being rude or ignoring you...we are just taking care of business.
8. WATCH BANNER/PICTURE SIZES. While maybe we should be computer whizzes and know everything there is to know about them in order to run a forum, we are not. Therefore without giving size specifications, let me just say that if it stretches the page....you will be asked to remove and/or resize banners and/or pictures in your signature or posts. It's just annoying to have to scroll the page over in order to read an entire sentence.
1. READ AND FOLLOW FORUM RULES. The rules of this forum apply to everyone posting everywhere on this forum, including this section. The admin(s) are also GM(game masters) and therefore have the right to exercise the authority to discipline and/or ban any who do not follow the rules, according to but not limited to the guidelines set forth in the forum rules. Failing to read said rules will be no excuse for breaking them.
2. THE GAME MASTERS' WORD IS LAW. On this forum, the GM(s) is the Admin(s) and as such have jurisdiction over RPG. It will be at their discretion to allow/disallow any posts that have been made with or without giving any players advance warning, although you will be notified after action is taken if your post(s) have been disallowed, along with reason why such action was taken. Any players that do not heed GM's instructions will be properly disciplined.
3. ALL RPG POSTS SHOULD BE MADE IN THIRD PERSON. After much thinking on this subject, I think that this makes for the easiest and best writing. While it's true that other voices can add an undeniable flavor to a story, most of us are not professional writers.
4. LEARN BY EXAMPLE. The best way to find out how things are done on this forum (or any other for that matter) is to look around and see how existing members post and react to posts. You will likely find that most members post in a very consistent way and will expect new members to do likewise. If you still have any questions, feel free to PM a GM or long time member and they will be happy to tell you if what you wish to do is acceptable or not.
5. READ CAREFULLY. It is very important that you keep up with not only the details of what has been/is taking place within any given RPG but also with the tone of the post(s) that have been made prior to yours. Sometimes it may even be important that you read ALL prior posts in order to be sure yours does not throw the direction of RP off in any way.
6. USE PROPER ENGLISH AND CORRECT GRAMMAR. We would hope that this rule be self-explanatory but will take the time to explain to be on the safe side. Regardless of the importance of what you want to say, people will generally ignore you if you fail to use proper English and/or correct grammar. AOL and SMS abbreviations will make your post(s) hard to read and/or understand and lack the proper descriptions RPGs require. So, please remember that you are not texting or im'ing a friend while posting.
7. TAKE YOUR TIME. Communication is not done in real-time and therefore affords you the luxury of thinking before you post. While many players (myself included) expect posts in a timely manner (i.e. not having to wait weeks for an answer to a previous post) they generally will rather wait a reasonable amount of time for a good post instead of receiving a below par one in a manner of minutes.
8. KEEP CONTROL. This rule may not be exactly what you are thinking, so we hope they you have not decided to assume you know what we are referring to and skip it. While we do indeed expect you to control yourself personally on the forum, in this instance we are referring to CHARACTER control. In other words, you have control of your character(s) and yours alone. When your character is interacting with another character please remember that just because you grab that character by the arm and drag them from a room does not mean that character intends to let you. We will allow a small amount of "directing" another character, in order to give that person an idea of where you are wanting to go with future posts but if you take complete control of a character other than your own, you will be notified and asked to modify your post(s).
9. BE REALISTIC. This rule has been added for the reason that this is a RP based upon a tv show based on real life people and situations. So, just as a real life FBI agent will eventually get hit by a bullet if he is constantly being shot at, so must your character suffer through injuries, illness and disappointments. No one can decide to injure or kill your character other than you, but it is just not feasible to think your character will always come out on top.
10. BE SURE TO ALWAYS READ STORYLINE BEFORE POSTING. The breaking of this rule will not be overlooked more than one time. It is very important to the flow of the RPG that you read up on what is going on, what day it is, what time it is and where characters are before posting.
11. KEEP ALL POSTS PG-13. And this is not only because it is very likely 13 year olds will be reading this but also because we do not wish our RPG to become filled with smut. Sexual innuendos are allowed, just if your character and another somehow end up in bed together...it should end before the "deed" begins or start when the "deed" is done. Let each member use their own wonderful imaginations to fill in the blanks.
Above all else we hope that you have fun and enjoy yourselves in the process of creating a fanfic of sorts with others that share your love of Bones!
